A small fine-gardening practice on Cape Cod — drawing on a Danish childhood, an art-school training in botanical illustration, and four decades of patient attention.
Kirsten West is a fine gardener working on Cape Cod, Massachusetts. Her practice is small by design — a limited number of clients each season, so each garden gets the attention it deserves.
She was born and raised on a dairy farm on the island of Fyn, Denmark, where her mother Marie taught her to look closely at things — through knitting, embroidery, sewing, and the lacemaking that ran in the family.
She later studied Botanical Illustration, Drawing, and Painting at the Rhode Island School of Design. Now living on Cape Cod, she brings four decades of attention to gardens across the Mid, Lower, and Outer Cape — composing planting plans, restoring overgrown beds, and shepherding properties through the seasons.
Kirsten doesn't just maintain a garden — she has a relationship with it. Our roses have never looked like this in twenty years.— A client in Orleans, MA
